Be warned, however, that the forensic accountancy route can end up costing thousands of pounds which may not be retrivable at the end of the day. I don't normally include articles from the States, but this one on Collaborative Law techniques for divorce solicitors makes the points very well. I have to admit that sometimes I love the way our friends across the Atlantic cut to the chase and 'talk straight'. We could do with more straight talking from our legal profession at times. In the case of divorce, which is already a difficult issue, clouding it with rhetoric DOES NOT WORK.

Andrew Woolley appeared on our Interview With a Solicitor page and this article comes from him. I am happy to display this clear information on the reality of procedure. The only thing it does not mention is all the to and froing of inter solicitor gobbledegook that can go on in between. However, if your solicitor is clear from the start it does vastly reduces the likelihood of this. Then you just have to worry about the other side's solicitor...

This is a Press Release from Divorce On-Line, an internet based company that provides a chat forum where divorcees or would be divorcees can communicate with each other. The site also offers DIY divorce packages. Divorce Solicitor Trap has no reports of the success of these packages and would welcome any feedback from people who have used them. The site is one of the biggest for on-line divorce services, which is useful to know in any event.

Here is a good article on splitting the assets, particularly talking about the family home and looking at what the options are. Children clearly change the focus. But be vigilant about the collaborative law methos referred to in this article. It can work well, but be careful that charges are not by the hour or session, since this can mean more drawing out or proceedings... especially if this service is offered by a solicitor firm rather than a professional mediator..

This Times article contains reference to a certain London lawyer who has acquired a reputation as a dismantler of men's fortunes. It indicates how some lawyers are eager to jump on the bandwagon of change. I find it hard to pass judgement on women who pursue their ex husband's large fortunes. This is such a socially sensitive issue and covers many considerations, such as our idea of marriage and sexual equality. Needs debating... Post us your comments and we will put them on display for others to read and respond to.
